Do I need a visa to visit Cambodia?

Yes, most foreign visitors require a visa to enter Cambodia. Visa policies vary by nationality and can change. It's crucial to check the latest requirements well in advance of your trip.

  • e-Visa: Many nationalities can apply for an e-visa online, which is often the most convenient option.
  • Visa on Arrival (VOA): Available at international airports (Phnom Penh, Siem Reap) and some land borders. You'll need your passport (valid for at least 6 months), one recent passport-sized photo, and a fee (typically USD 30 for a tourist visa).
  • Visa Exemption: A few ASEAN countries (e.g., Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore) have visa exemption agreements for short stays.

We recommend checking the official Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website or contacting your local Cambodian embassy/consulate for the most up-to-date information specific to your passport.

What's the best time of year to visit Cambodia?

Cambodia generally has two main seasons:

  • Dry Season (November to April): This is the most popular time to visit, with pleasant temperatures and clear skies. It's ideal for exploring temples like Angkor Wat and enjoying the beaches. However, it's also peak tourist season, so expect larger crowds and higher prices.
  • Wet Season (May to October): Characterized by higher humidity and daily rainfall, usually in the afternoon. While some may avoid it, the wet season brings lush green landscapes, fewer tourists, and often lower prices. The rain showers are typically short, and the cooler temperatures can be a welcome relief.

Our tour experts can help you choose the best time based on your specific itinerary.

What currency is used in Cambodia, and how should I handle money?

The official currency is the Cambodian Riel (KHR), but the US Dollar (USD) is widely accepted and often preferred for larger transactions. Many prices are quoted in USD.

  • ATMs are plentiful in major cities and tourist areas, dispensing both USD and KHR.
  • Credit Cards are accepted in most hotels, upscale restaurants, and larger shops, particularly in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. Cash (USD or KHR) is essential for local markets, street food, and smaller establishments.
  • It's a good idea to carry smaller denominations of USD for daily expenses.
What are the main transportation options within Cambodia?

Cambodia offers various ways to get around:

  • Flights: Quickest for long distances between major cities like Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville. Cambodia Angkor Air is the national carrier, along with other regional airlines.
  • Buses & Vans: An economical and widely used option for inter-city travel. Services range from standard buses to more comfortable express and sleeper buses. Private minivans are also popular for small groups.
  • Trains: A limited rail network primarily connects Phnom Penh with Sihanoukville and Poipet. It's a slower, more scenic option for specific routes.
  • Tuk-tuks: The most common and convenient mode of transport for short distances in cities and around the Angkor Archaeological Park. Always agree on a price before you start your journey or use ride-hailing apps like Grab (available in major cities).
  • Motorbikes (Motos/Scooters): Available for rent in many areas, but driving in Cambodian traffic can be challenging and dangerous, especially without experience.
  • Taxis: Readily available in cities and for longer distances. Negotiate the fare beforehand or use a meter.

Our tours typically include comfortable and safe transportation for all inter-city and local transfers.

Is tipping customary in Cambodia?
Tipping is not mandatory but is certainly appreciated for good service, especially in tourist-focused restaurants, hotels, and for tour guides and drivers. While not expected everywhere, a small tip can go a long way in showing your appreciation for good service.
